A downloadable game

A game by Jasper Byrne, creator of the award-winning Lone Survivor for PC/Mac/Wii U/PS3/PS4/PS Vita.

Made in 1995, after releasing 'Keith's Quest' the same year on F1 Licenseware. Though complete, Trip 2: Trip War was never released until now.  It is a two-player only strategy-dogfighting hybrid.

You are daring pilots of lightning-fast Trip Ships in the year 2060, embroiled in a bitter war. Who will be victorious?

The aim is to shoot down your opponent, while collecting powerups to increase your speed, shot power and shield.

In War Mode, the players must also play a turn-based strategy game to aquire territory on the map, building and upgrading while sending your Trip Ships into combat.

For Amiga with 1mb+ ram. 2 Player only.

Tested on A4000/030 / stock A1200.  May not work on emulation.

Author's note:

I am releasing this as Pay What You Want, in the hope of raising some additional funds for my new game, a project I've been working on for over eight years. If you liked Lone Survivor and want to help my next game along, this would be a great way of supporting me!

Thanks,

Jasper

For Amiga with 1mb+ ram. 2 Player only. Tested on A4000/030 / stock A1200. May not work on emulation. Presented as an .adf disk image. It can be run from a floppy emulator on a real Amiga.

Possibly PAL-only. I'm not entirely sure, but feel free to request an itch.io refund if you have any issues. Sorry I can't fix any bugs as the code is long since lost. Ideally played on a CRT that supports 50hz.

Instructions:

- Player 1 must use arrow keys and Space. Joystick is used for player 2.

VS MODE [Press '3' on the main menu]

- There is VS Mode and War Mode. VS Mode is a simple aerial combat mode which plays much like BBC Thrust mixed with the classic Amiga PD game, Biplane Duel, except that you can land at any point.

- In VS mode, you must beat the opponent in a match of first-to-ten (or whatever match limit you set on the main menu.)

- Flying saucers will fly by. Shoot them to drop a Starman who will level up your shield, bullets or speed (and look out for the secret Rainbow Starman!) You must land on the floor to collect these little guys.

- One winning strategy can be to land at a good horizontal speed while firing a volley, knocking the opponent for some damage (being sure to turn upwards at the last second before landing.) Trip Troopers like to call this technique 'cratching', due to the sound it makes.

WAR MODE [Press '4' on the main menu]

- War Mode is mouse controlled has a strategy element. Craft buildings and ships. Upgrade your buildings.

- Enter combat with your opponent by moving your ships onto their square. To move a ship, left-click to select the square, then left-click to move.

- In War Mode, Trip Ships have levels from 1-3. The difference is their amount of starting Starmen, and the maximum the craft can hold.

- In the bottom left of the interface, you can build:

  1. Factories (for crafting units, and earning production, represented by a gear icon.)
  2. Commercial Zones (to increase income.)
  3. Science Parks (to build upgraded level 2 and 3 units, represented by a lightbulb. Hover over the ship level selector to see the resource costs of each level of ship.)

You also gain additional money and production from squares 'owned' (with your flag planted on them), with different terrain types having different passive incomes.

- Buildings can be upgraded for better income of their respective resource. The costs are on the button.

- You can only build on territory already owned. To gain territory, simply move a unit over it, provided the enemy is not already occupying it, in which case, combat will determine the occupier. Capturing territory includes any buildings built there, so it would be wise to defend your buildings!

- In the top-left of the interface, you can see the units occupying a current square.

When players click the buy ship button, a ship of the level selected in the level select button below will be created on the selected square. You can only build ships on Factories, or on top of other units that don't yet have four ships. Additionally, you can store units in your reserve, in which case they'll be used instead of resources next time you buy.

But beware! If a unit is already in the field, you will not be able to build on that square again as all four Trip Ships will be sent to the reserve if you choose to do so. So it is not practical, for example, to remove a lower rank ship and replace it with a higher one, near to an opponent. For this reason it may be better to leave some room for growth when sending your troops into the field.

- Click on the flag or right-click to end your turn.

- The winner is the first player to destroy their opponent's entire army.
